Lake Vermilion BlogVermilion Ice Out and Your Fishing Trip
With Minnesota's fishing opener less than 1 month out, the Lake Vermilion resort and fishing community is discussing the likely hood of the ice going out in time for the much anticipated event.
For fishing guides, local businesses serving the tourism industry and resorts like White Eagle, fishing opener is like a much anticipated birth. Since last fall we've been planning and investing in our new season and naturally feel some sadness and disappointment with the prediction of a late ice out. Local guide Rob Bryer comments about the state of Vermilion fishing and beginning of the season and offers some encouragement. As author Hal Borland reminds us, "No winter lasts forever; no spring skips her turn." At White Eagle, we are still planning for ice out by fishing opener! Our guests who have already booked are welcome to delay their trips and apply their deposits to different dates in 2018. For May trips reserved between now and ice out, deposits are refundable and receive a complimentary night with any 2+ night trip. We feel fortunate that in our 28 years running White Eagle, the lake has only been frozen over fishing opener one time! Many guests kept their reservations that year anyway, and we assisted them bringing their boats to parts of the lake that were open. We are prepared to do that again this year -if need be. Think about planning your fishing trip despite the odds. As always, ice out will come when it wants and we will adapt. Watch the progress on the webcam. We have much to be grateful for and appreciate our guests and the Vermilion community for their continued support. Here's to the 2018 season!
